SS304 Stainless Steel Test Wands for Metal Detectors
SS304 Stainless Steel Test Wands for Metal Detector Verification
A certified AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel sphere in a rigid, colour-coded rod. Stainless steel of this grade is only weakly magnetic and a poor electrical conductor, which makes it the most difficult of the three standard contaminant types for a metal detector to see. The SS304 wand is therefore the piece that defines the real sensitivity limit of a line.
Contaminant type: Stainless Steel 304 (austenitic, weakly magnetic, low conductivity). Available in sphere diameters from 1.0 mm to 12.0 mm in 0.5 mm steps.
Key features
- AISI 304 austenitic stainless sphere — the standard benchmark for worst-case detectability
- Colour-coded and clearly separated from the ferrous and non-ferrous wands
- Grade and sphere diameter marked on the wand so the correct piece is picked every time
- Uniquely numbered and matched to its traceability certificate
- Rigid construction that stands up to daily production-floor use
- 23 sphere sizes from 1.0 mm to 12.0 mm
Why SS304 sets the sensitivity limit
Almost everything a food factory is built from is stainless steel — mesh, wire, blades, clamps, thermometer probes and mixer parts — so stainless is both the most likely contaminant and the hardest to detect. Because the detectable SS304 sphere is always larger than the ferrous one on the same line, the SS304 result is the figure normally written into the HACCP plan and quoted to customers and auditors as the line sensitivity. It is run last in the three-metal verification sequence, and any drift in the SS304 result is the earliest warning that a detector needs attention.
Also available in Ferrous, Non-Ferrous and SS316 as test wands, or as a SS304 flexible test wand and a SS304 test ball. Browse the full range of certified metal detector test pieces.
Certificate included
Every Detectronic test piece in this range is supplied with its corresponding traceability certificate. The certificate records the material, the test sphere size and a unique certificate number, so the physical test piece you hold can always be matched to its documentation.
The unique certificate number is marked on the test piece itself, which is what makes the link between the piece and its paperwork defensible during an audit or a customer inspection.

Frequently asked questions
When will I receive my order?
Stocked products are dispatched within 24 hours on working days. Typical delivery is 1–3 working days within the EU and 2–5 working days internationally. Delivery times may vary depending on destination, carrier and customs clearance.
Does my test piece include a certificate?
Yes. Relevant Detectronic test pieces are supplied with their corresponding traceability certificate, allowing the test piece to be linked to its documentation via its unique certificate number.
Which sphere size should I order?
The sphere size you verify with is normally set by your own HACCP plan, customer specification or detector sensitivity assessment. This product is available from 1.0 mm to 12.0 mm in 0.5 mm steps. If you are not sure which size applies to your line, contact us and we will help.
Are prices shown with or without VAT?
All prices are shown excluding VAT, shipping and any applicable duties or import taxes. Any tax due is determined at checkout based on your delivery address.
