Non-Ferrous Test Balls for Metal Detector Verification

A certified non-ferrous test sphere in bare ball form. Non-ferrous metals give no magnetic signal at all, so the detector must find them from conductivity alone — a harder task that becomes harder still when the sphere is buried in product rather than held at the edge of the aperture.

Contaminant type: Non-ferrous (non-magnetic, conductive metals such as brass, copper and aluminium). Available in sphere diameters from 1.0 mm to 12.0 mm — in 0.5 mm steps up to 10.0 mm, plus 11.0 mm and 12.0 mm.

Key features

  • Bare non-ferrous sphere for in-product and free-fall testing
  • Non-magnetic and conductive — the second standard contaminant type
  • Travels the same path and speed as a genuine fragment
  • Usable for in-pack validation as well as gravity systems
  • Uniquely numbered for certificate traceability
  • 21 sphere sizes from 1.0 mm to 12.0 mm

Typical applications

Powders, granulates, spices, flour and pet food are all handled in free-fall systems where the bare ball is the only realistic test format. Non-ferrous contamination on those lines tends to come from brass fittings, aluminium scoops and copper wiring in the surrounding equipment. Dropping a non-ferrous ball into the product stream verifies both the detection and the timing of the reject device for the second of the three standard contaminant types, and gives an auditor a result that reflects how the system behaves in production rather than on the bench.

Also available in Ferrous, SS304 and SS316 as test balls, or as a Non-Ferrous test wand and a Non-Ferrous flexible test wand. Browse the full range of certified metal detector test pieces.

Certificate included

Every Detectronic test piece in this range is supplied with its corresponding traceability certificate. The certificate records the material, the test sphere size and a unique certificate number, so the physical test piece you hold can always be matched to its documentation.

The unique certificate number is marked on the test piece itself, which is what makes the link between the piece and its paperwork defensible during an audit or a customer inspection.
